Russian President Vladimir Putin's course of firmly defending national interests and openness to equal cooperation is proving effective, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday during a government hour at the State Duma.
"Attempts to isolate Russia have failed, our enemies are forced to admit this. The president's policy of asserting strong national interests while being open to extensive international cooperation on equal terms is proving to be effective," he said.
According to the Russian foreign minister, it is natural that most countries of the world have taken a balanced position on the situation in Ukraine and have not joined the anti-Russian sanctions. "In our long-term planning, we consistently proceed from the fact that the modern world is multipolar, that the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, which make up the global majority, do not want to live in a Western-centric order based on the rules invented by the West itself, the rules that Washington, London and Brussels created and create each time in a new way for themselves," the minister added. - "It is therefore logical that three-quarters of the world's states have not joined the anti-Russian sanctions and have taken a balanced position regarding the situation in Ukraine, which they rightly view not in isolation, but in the context of the long overdue crisis of European security as a whole due to NATO's aggressive course."
Lavrov also recalled Chinese President Xi Jinping's words on the need to ensure the indivisibility of security on a global scale.
