22 April 2022

Regular contacts between Russia and Kazakhstan testify to the importance of the alliance between the two countries and their strategic partnership based on the decisions of the presidents, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday, opening talks with Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi.

"You hosted me a year ago, in April last year, then we met again in Kazakhstan on the margins of the meeting on cooperation and confidence-building measures in Asia, and the regularity of our contacts, of course, reflects the importance of our alliance, the strategic partnership based on the decisions that the presidents take," he said.

Lavrov also recalled the visit of Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Moscow in February and the inter-parliamentary assembly of the CIS held in Almaty in late March with the participation of Valentina Matvienko, Chairman of the Federation Council.

The Russian foreign minister added that he took part in a videoconference in the "Central Asia + Russia" format on Friday, calling it "very useful and eventful" and stressing that this format was considered promising by the participants.
