Russia and the member states of the Arab League have the potential to play a significant role in bringing an end to the violence in the Israel-Palestine conflict, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as he commenced discussions with LAS Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
"I am confident that Russia, along with the Arab League and all its member states, can and should play a role in addressing these issues. Our primary goal is to halt the bloodshed and alleviate the suffering of civilians. We stand ready to collaborate with you and with other nations genuinely committed to establishing lasting peace in the Middle East and ensuring the security of all countries in the region, including the State of Palestine, as mandated by the United Nations Security Council. Your visit is particularly timely in light of the current situation, and we are eager to hear your insights and proposals," stated the Russian foreign minister.
