Lavrov: Russia expects greater support from OSCE countries for Karabakh agreements

03 December 2020

Russia counts on more active support from the countries of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) for the achieved trilateral statement on a complete cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. This is stated in the video address of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to the participants of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OSCE member states.

"The potential of the organization in conflict resolution remains in demand. The agreements reached to resolve crisis situations in the OSCE area should receive more support from the participating States, which will contribute to their implementation. We expect this with regard to the settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh, which we will continue to support in every possible way. We appreciate the cooperation between the three Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group," the Minister said.

A joint statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was signed on November 9. The document put an end to hostilities in the zone of aggravation of the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, which began on September 27. According to the document, the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides stop at occupied positions, and Russian peacekeepers are deployed along the line of contact and the Lachin corridor.
