Russia will extend invitations not only to full-fledged members of the association but also to BRICS+ countries for the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with Izvestia.
"In preparation for the summit in Kazan this fall, we will invite not only the full-fledged BRICS members, which now are 10, but also our partners in the BRICS+ format," the minister stated. Lavrov also noted that a decision on introducing a new category of "partner country" is being prepared in parallel for the summit. "There are around 30 countries in the queue," he added.
According to the Russian foreign minister, the association "has truly acquired a global dimension not only in its agenda and geography, as almost all major regions are represented, but also in the number of countries." "Now diplomacy is developing within such a paradigm," - he pointed out. - "All these regional and sub-regional processes harmoniously fit into the position, concept, and philosophy that the BRICS, where Russia holds the chairmanship this year, is promoting at the global level."
