Washington is again trying to interfere in Afghanistan's affairs, and there is strong evidence of this, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday following a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers.

The Russian foreign minister expressed hope that the decision to activate the SCO-Afghanistan group will be implemented. In this connection he stressed that the situation "really demands some urgent measures." "Since the Americans again try to interfere in the affairs of Afghanistan," the minister added.

"There is convincing evidence of facts that show that the Americans support the remaining terrorist groups on the territory of Afghanistan opposing the Taliban (representatives of the radical Taliban movement banned in Russia - TASS)," he noted. Also, Lavrov continued, the Americans "do not leave attempts to reintroduce their military infrastructure in the region around Afghanistan, in Central Asia."

"Everyone is well aware of the most serious danger that such attempts conceal," the minister added, stressing that Russia will "firmly counteract them."
