Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will hold talks with his Algerian counterpart Sabri Boukadoum on July 22 in Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
"In development of the current practice of establishing a dialogue on topical issues of bilateral relations and the regional agenda, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will hold talks with the foreign Minister of Algeria in Moscow on July 22," Zakharova said at a briefing.
Zakharova: Russia and Algeria are linked by the Declaration on strategic partnership signed in 2001, which sets a long-term benchmark for joint work. "For almost two decades, we have managed to thoroughly build the foundation of cooperation. Mutually beneficial ties are successfully developing in economic, military-technical, scientific, and humanitarian spheres, and in 2019 the trade turnover between our countries amounted to 3.4 billion US dollars. This is, in general, a significant indicator, " Zakharova added.
The official representative of the Foreign Ministry noted that Algeria played an important role in ensuring regional stability in North Africa, this country made a significant contribution to the fight against terrorism in the Sahara-Sahel zone, actively participated in international efforts to achieve national accord in Mali, and had a constructive mediation potential in the Libyan settlement.
"We believe that the upcoming negotiations will contribute to the strengthening of multi-faceted bilateral cooperation," the diplomat concluded.
