Lavrov, UN SG Special Envoy for Syria discussed Syria's relations with Arab League and Turkey

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Syria Geir Pedersen discussed Thursday improving Syria's relations with the  of Arab League and Syrian-Turkish normalization. The Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.

 

"Particular attention was paid to the latest developments in the Middle East region related to Syria's return to the Arab League, improving relations between Damascus and the Arab countries and the tasks of Syrian-Turkish normalization. The parties also continued consideration of accompanying a political process, led and implemented by the Syrians themselves with the support of the UN, as stipulated by UN Security Council Resolution 2254," the statement reads.

 

 

The sides also discussed the Syrian settlement and providing humanitarian aid to the republic.

 

"The importance of strict respect for the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, compliance with the guiding principles of humanitarian assistance enshrined in key decisions of the UNSC and GA [Security Council and General Assembly], including UNSC resolutions 2254, 2672, was emphasized," the diplomatic office added.
