The leaders of the three states of the Central Asian region signed a friendship and cooperation agreement following the fourth consultative meeting of the heads of states of Central Asia in the city of Cholpon-Ata (Issyk-Kul region), TASS correspondent reports from the site.
Following the meeting, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a treaty on friendship, good neighborliness and cooperation for the development of Central Asia in the 21st century. "President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan will sign this document after the completion of domestic procedures in their countries," the press service of the Kyrgyz head of state reported.
"I am confident that this important document will have a positive impact on the processes of further rapprochement of the countries of our region and the consolidation of joint efforts in overcoming emerging challenges and threats of our time. This is a historic moment, and I hope that this treaty will become a reliable basis for global prosperity in Central Asia", commented the head of the Kyrgyz state Sadyr Japarov.
In addition, the summit participants approved the concept of cooperation of Central Asian countries in multilateral formats, the "Green Agenda" regional program and the road map for the development of regional cooperation in 2022-2024. In addition, the presidents signed the decision of the heads of state-founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea to extend Emomali Rahmon's term of office as president of the fund.
The meeting in Cholpon-Ata was attended by the presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The next meeting of Central Asian leaders in this format is scheduled for 2023 in Tajikistan.
