Lebanon Looks to Russia for Key Role in Middle East Peace Efforts

23 January

Lebanon's Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration Abdallah Bou Habib expressed hope that Russia will play a crucial role in resolving the situation in the Middle East. Speaking on the Russia-1 TV channel, Bou Habib acknowledged the complexities of the ongoing conflicts in the region and emphasized Russia's potential for contributing to peace efforts.

"Now it is difficult to talk about the peace process in the Middle East. I hope that Russia will play a crucial role in this conflict (in the settlement - TASS). There is a war going on now, besides, there are armed clashes with the Israeli army on the territory of South Lebanon. However, I know that if there is an opportunity for peace, Russia will in any case act in favor of establishing peace," said the head of the Lebanese diplomatic department.

This statement follows discussions between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Bou Habib in New York, where Lavrov underscored the inadmissibility of Lebanon's involvement in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Russia reaffirmed its unwavering support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Lebanese Republic. Lavrov emphasized the importance of Lebanon finding consensus solutions to national issues without external interference.
