Matviyenko to visit Indonesia to attend G20 summit of heads of parliaments

Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko will pay a visit to Indonesia to take part in the eighth summit of speakers of parliament of the G20, the press service of the Federation Council told reporters.


"A delegation of the Russian parliament headed by the Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko will visit the Republic of Indonesia on October 5-7," the press service said in a statement. "Matviyenko will take part in the eighth summit of speakers of parliaments of the Group of Twenty in Jakarta, will speak at the thematic session on food and energy security and economic challenges, as well as during the discussion on social integration, gender equality and the empowerment of women", was added in the press-service.


The program of the visit includes meetings with representatives of the Indonesian leadership and parliamentarians. In particular, with Head of the Council of Regional Representatives La Nyalla Mattalitti, Chairperson of the People’s Representative Council Puan Maharani. Matviyenko will also hold a number of other bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit.


The Russian parliamentary delegation includes Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev, Vice-Speaker of the State Duma Pyotr Tolstoy, Chairperson of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture and Head of the Group on Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Indonesian Council of Regional Representatives Liliya Gumerova, and First Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Jabarov.


The eighth summit of speakers of parliament is organized in the run-up to the summit of G20 leaders. Priority topics include acceleration of sustainable development, green economy, food and energy security, economic challenges, effective parliament, viable democracy, social inclusion, gender equality and women's empowerment.
