Media: nine soldiers killed in Israeli missile attack on outskirts of Damascus

Israel launched early-morning rocket strikes against Syrian army and Shia militia positions on the outskirts of Damascus on Wednesday. The death toll from the Israeli attack rose to nine, according to Al Hadath, a broadcaster from Dubai.


According to his reports, five Shia Hezbollah fighters and four Syrian servicemen were killed and some were wounded. The TV channel reported that the strikes targeted the area of the international airport south of Damascus, where weapons depots and command posts of Shia militias are located. According to eyewitnesses, several powerful explosions were heard on the southern outskirts of the capital.


Earlier, a spokesman for the Arab republic's army command told the SANA news agency that four soldiers were killed and three others wounded in the Israeli attack, and there was also material damage. "The aggressive attack was launched from an area north of Lake Tiberias," the military spokesman specified. - "Syrian air defenses opened fire on aerial targets and hit most of the enemy's missiles."


Shia volunteers from Lebanon and Iraq have been fighting on the Syrian army's side against gangs and terrorist groups since 2012.
