The military leadership of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has decided against deploying military force in response to the coup d'état that resulted in the seizure of power in Niger by rebel forces.
According to a statement from the defense ministers of the regional organization, as reported by Al Arabiya TV channel, ECOWAS will not pursue a military intervention strategy in Niger. Instead, it intends to escalate sanctions as a means to exert pressure, aiming to secure the release of Niger's President, Mohamed Bazoum.
