The militants tried to attack the Russian base at Syria’s Hmeymim with drones, Chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria Alexander Shcherbitsky said.

"On July 11, Russia air defense systems spotted unmanned aerial vehicles approaching the Hmeymim airbase from the northeastern direction. Two militants’ combat drones were downed at a distance of five kilometers of the base," he said.

Shcherbitsky added that no one was injured, there was no material damage. The air base continues to operate routinely. The Rear Admiral also said that Jabhat al-Nusra (a terrorist organization outlawed in Russia) militants had shelled the settlement in Idlib.

In addition, the Syrian air force conducted patrols along the route:  Qwaires airport-Metras-Ain Issa-Mahmudli-Qwaires airport. Shcherbitsky noted that no shelling attacks by Turkey-controlled armed groups were reported in Syria’s Idlib de-escalation zone during the past day.
