Servicemen of the Russian group in Syria conducted a general rehearsal of the parade dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The training was also attended by the Syrian military.
In total, more than a thousand servicemen were involved in the training.
Command officers and servicemen of the group of troops, mixed aviation regiment, medical unit of special purpose, military police unit, military orchestra and the summary parade of female military men were on foot.
"For me, this is pride. I am a fourth-generation officer. I have three great-grandfathers, a great-uncle, a great-aunt fought. It is a great honour and pride for me to participate in the parade," Vadim Ivanov, head of the Military Police Department of the Russian Armed Forces said.
Soldiers of the Syrian Armed Forces also marched along the square. Among them were representatives of the Naval Academy of the SAR Armed Forces, special units of the Army and Air Force of the Syrian Arab Republic, as well as the "Commandos" assault regiment of special purpose.
"In training, we practiced step, head rotation, clarity of construction in a box. So I think we presented ourselves more than worthy and showed all our strength," soldier Victoria Tishchenko added.
As part of the mechanized column, Russian armored vehicles Tiger-M and Typhoon, armored personnel carriers BTR-82A, anti-aircraft missile and Panzer artillery systems, as well as military equipment of land units of the Syrian Armed Forces passed through the square. In total, more than 50 vehicles took part in the training.
In addition, Mi-8ATMSCh, Mi-35, SA-342 Gazelle helicopters and Su-24, Su-34 and Su-35 aircraft were also used in the air part of the training.
"First of all, we are proud to pay tribute to those who died. To our great-grandfather who died. When you are in line, it is difficult to express, you must go through it. Emotions are overwhelming", Anton Smirnov, a serviceman of the Russian military police said.
On the Day of Memory and Sorrow servicemen of the Khmeimim airbase also took part in the All-Russian action "Candle of Memory" dedicated to the 79th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
Command and servicemen of the Russian group in the SAR laid flowers at the monument to Marshal Konstantin Rokossovsky. Then the rector of the temple of prophet Elijah archpriest Kirill (he is also an assistant commander of the group to work with believers) held a memorial service for the soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War.
