25 November 2021

The main responsibility for the post-conflict reconstruction in Afghanistan should be borne by those countries whose actions led to the current tragedy, it is important to prevent a humanitarian disaster in this country, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said.

"It is in our common interests to ensure peace, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Afghan state. To make it free of terrorism and drugs. This is necessary for the safe and stable development of our entire region. But of course, the primary responsibility for post-conflict reconstruction should rest with the countries whose actions led to the current tragedy," he said at the meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government. Mishustin noted that the situation in Afghanistan is of serious concern.

"It is important not to allow the situation in this country, which is close to all of us, to slide into a humanitarian catastrophe," he said.

Mishustin reminded that Russia sent the first batch of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. Other SCO nations are also supporting the Afghan people, he added.
