Mishustin congratulated Russian Muslims on Eid al-Fitr

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has congratulated Russian Muslims on the holiday of Uraza Bayram. The congratulatory telegram was published on the government website on Monday.

 

"The enlightening and charitable activities of the Russian ummah, which are aimed at helping and supporting the needy, the spiritual and moral education of young people, the preservation of customs and traditions, deserve great respect and recognition," the prime minister said in a telegram sent to heads of religious boards of Russian Muslims.


In his message, Mishustin specifically noted the contribution of the Russian ummah to strengthening inter-ethnic and inter-confessional peace and harmony and countering xenophobia and extremism.

 

On May 2, 2022, Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr  at the end of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. In Russia and among the Turkic-speaking peoples of Central Asia it is called Uraza Bayram, and in Arab countries - Eid al-Fitr. It is second in importance after the Festival of Sacrifice Eid al-Adha.
