More than 1,500 troops of three countries to take part in exercise on border with Afghanistan

More than 1,500 servicemen from Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will take part in exercises at the Harb-Maydon training range 20 km away from Afghanistan, which will be held from August 5 to 10. This is stated in a report distributed by the press service of the Central Military District on Tuesday.


"In total, more than 1,500 servicemen will be involved in tactical actions from the three countries and about 300 units of weapons and military equipment will be involved," the message reads.


The text indicates that the soldiers will practice defending against invading gangs and destroying "radical terrorist groups." At all stages of the exercise tactical actions with the use of reconnaissance and fire and reconnaissance strike complexes will be practiced.


The core of the Russian military contingent, which will consist of about 1,000 servicemen, will be formed from units of the 201st military base, including mountain motorized rifle, tank and artillery units, as well as a group of special separate units of special purpose of the Central Military District. In addition, the exercise will involve NBC specialists and mobile electronic warfare groups.
