Moscow and Tashkent to Cooperate More Closely in the UN, CIS, and SCO

27 May

Russia and Uzbekistan will continue close interaction on international platforms such as the UN, according to a joint statement by the leaders of the two countries following Russian President Vladimir Putin's state visit to Uzbekistan.

"The parties will continue close interaction within the framework of the UN and its specialized bodies, the SCO, and other international organizations and forums," the statement said. It also emphasized "the demand for the Russia-Central Asia format, as well as the importance of early agreement on the joint action plan" adopted at the first summit in Astana in 2022.

The statement expressed satisfaction with the interaction between Moscow and Tashkent in the CIS. Presidents Vladimir Putin and Shavkat Mirziyoyev "consider the Commonwealth as an effective mechanism of multilateral cooperation." Additionally, Uzbekistan "highly appreciates the current presidency of the Russian Federation in the CIS and expresses readiness to actively promote the realization of its priorities."

The two countries intend to continue working on expanding Tashkent's interaction with the EAEU "to further deepen trade, economic, and cooperative ties." While Uzbekistan is not a member of the community, it has been an observer since 2020.
