Mukhametshin: the potential of cooperation between Russia and the OIC has not yet been fully revealed

30 June 2020

Over the past 15 years, the Russian Federation and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have shown their mutual interest in establishing cooperation and maintaining dialogue, Deputy Chairman of the Group of strategic vision Russia-Islamic world  Farit Mukhametshin said speaking at the online conference "15 years of partnership between the Russian Federation and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation". According to him, the potential of cooperation between Russia and the OIC, as well as the participating countries, has not yet been fully disclosed.

"At today's conference, we are already receiving interesting proposals from speakers about the future prospects of our further cooperation, including what key aspects to focus on in the framework of our further cooperation."

According to Mukhametshin, in modern conditions, cooperation between Russia and the OIC should reach a qualitatively new level, including becoming more coordinated and consolidated.

"Based on the long-term experience of our cooperation, we have the right to ask ourselves: what priority areas should we focus further cooperation on, and what else can we jointly counter modern global threats. Each of us understands that the world has already entered a period of dangerous instability that affects all States without exception. We are witnessing the erosion of international law, the destruction of the system of international relations that has been created for decades, as well as the ongoing challenges of international terrorism and religious extremism." In this regard, the Deputy Chairman of the GSV "Russia – Islamic world" is sure that there is a need to further strengthen cooperation and develop a further mechanism for joint work.
