Nebenzya: Russia Strongly Condemns Unilateral Sanctions Against African Countries

24 April

Russia strongly condemns unilateral sanctions imposed on African countries and opposes the use of UN Security Council sanctions to interfere in their internal affairs, Vasily Nebenzya, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said in a video message at the opening ceremony of the III International Youth Forum "Russia-Africa: What's Next?".

"We strongly condemn the unilateral restrictions imposed against them (African countries - TASS note). We prevent attempts to use UN Security Council restrictions as instruments of interference in the internal affairs of states," he stated.

Nebenzya emphasized that Russia, on the UN platform, continues "to make an important contribution to enhancing the capacities of African states, including within the framework of the UN Security Council and General Assembly." He added, "As a matter of principle, we oppose the imposition of any political structures from outside, as well as the reduction of sanctions pressure on sovereign African countries."

The III International Youth Forum "Russia - Africa: What's Next?" was organized by the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, with TASS serving as the information partner.
