Acting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan suggested deploying Russian military along the entire border with Azerbaijan.
"Given the current situation, I think it makes sense to consider the deployment of Russian border guards along the entire length of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, which would allow the border to be demarcated and delimited without the risk of military clashes," he said at a government meeting, adding that he plans to discuss this with Moscow.
The day before, Yerevan announced that three people died and five were wounded as a result of the exchange of fire on the border, and there were casualties on the Azerbaijani side as well. Later, with Moscow's mediation, the sides agreed to a ceasefire, but today the fire resumed.
Relations between the republics are very tense, largely because of the situation over Nagorno-Karabakh. Last year another round of military confrontation ended with an agreement that was beneficial for Azerbaijan: Armenia returned the Kelbajar, Lachin and Agdam districts; Russian peacekeepers were deployed in the region.
This was followed by border demarcation, which led to another crisis that peaked in May.
