Peskov Describes Putin's Visit to Kazakhstan as a Success

10 November 2023

Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for the Russian head of state, informed reporters that Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Kazakhstan on November 9 was successful in bolstering relations between the two countries. Peskov clarified that the topic of Kazakh-French contacts was not discussed during the visit.

"The topic of Kazakh-French relations was not on the agenda, nor should it have been," clarified the Kremlin spokesman. He was responding to a query regarding whether French President Emmanuel Macron, during his recent visit to Kazakhstan, had relayed messages to Moscow through the country's leader, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Peskov underscored that the relations between Astana and Paris and those between Moscow and Astana represent "entirely different spheres of interaction."

"We have our distinct relationship with Kazakhstan, a special, allied, and strategic partnership," emphasized the spokesman for the Russian leader. He expressed that "yesterday was a highly opportune moment to synchronize opinions and address present matters." "The scope of our relations is extensive; across all fronts, the political determination, technological capacity, and logistical readiness to sustain and broaden this interaction have been affirmed. The visit was successful," highlighted the Kremlin spokesman.

On November 9, Putin made an official visit to Kazakhstan, engaging in discussions with Tokayev. Both heads of state participated in an interregional cooperation forum. The meetings culminated in the signing of a set of documents, among which was a joint statement commemorating the tenth anniversary of the Treaty between Russia and Kazakhstan on good-neighborliness and alliance in the XXI century.

Macron, on the other hand, conducted an official visit to Kazakhstan on November 1. As mentioned by Peskov earlier, Kazakhstan is a sovereign state and develops relations with all countries based on its own discretion.
