Moscow supports statements by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman about the importance of the principles of equality and non-interference in world affairs, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Friday.
"We drew attention to his words about Riyadh's commitment to the UN's central role in world affairs and to building international relations on the principles of equality, respect, fair consideration of national interests and non-interference in each other's internal affairs. Such theses are now in clear short supply in world affairs, and they certainly deserve the highest praise. We fully support this approach," a Kremlin spokesman said, commenting on Prince bin Salman's statements.
"Now we see what is happening in the world, we see the flouting of international law, the flouting of common sense and so on. Of course, such statements are rare, and therefore very remarkable," Peskov stressed.
The Russian leader's spokesman also noted that the position voiced by the Saudi crown prince testifies to the commonality of Moscow and Riyadh's approaches in international politics and said Russia intends to further develop relations with the kingdom. "President [of Russia Vladimir] Putin is a convinced and consistent supporter of this attitude to the main framework of international affairs [the principles of equality, respect, fair consideration of national interests and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries]. Based on this common conceptual outlook, we are ready to continue defining the entire range of our relations with the kingdom, including through the implementation of the agreements reached during President Putin's visit to Riyadh," he pointed out.
