Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not rule out that a meeting between Russian president Vladimir Putin and Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi could take place before the end of the year.
"It cannot be ruled out, of course," the Kremlin spokesman said Thursday when asked by reporters about the likelihood of such a meeting before the end of the year.
According to the Kremlin spokesman, the issue is being worked out, but the specific date will depend on the epidemiological situation.
Peskov noted that both sides "have an understanding of the need for such a meeting, there is a willingness on both sides to hold such a meeting and preparations are underway." Earlier, Iranian foreign minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said at a joint press conference following talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov that Tehran hoped that a meeting between the Russian and Iranian presidents would take place in either of the two capitals in the near future to confirm the privileged bilateral relations of strategic partnership. The Iranian foreign minister said that the sides have agreed to soon begin discussing a document on strategic partnership and that Tehran is ready to submit in writing its considerations in this regard.
