Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Russian leader Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation on Wednesday, Bassam Rada, an official spokesman for the Arab republic's head of state's office, said.

"Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi spoke by telephone today with Russian President Vladimir Putin," he said. According to him, during the conversation, the two sides discussed and exchanged views on the latest developments surrounding the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

"The Egyptian president pointed to the need to give priority to dialogue and also confirmed Cairo's support for all diplomatic efforts that would accelerate the political resolution of the crisis in order to prevent further deterioration of the situation and to preserve international security and stability," he said.

El-Sisi also stated his readiness to support these efforts "both bilaterally and multilaterally" through active action, Rada added. The Egyptian leader also informed that his country is closely monitoring the situation, stressing that Cairo "gives the highest priority to the security and protection of Egyptian citizens staying in Ukraine." In this regard, he expressed gratitude to the Russian side for the measures it has taken to facilitate the evacuation of Egyptians, as well as for all the support it provides.

During the conversation, according to the official representative, the parties discussed ways to strengthen strategic cooperation between the friendly countries "through the implementation of joint projects." "The presidents confirmed the historic strength of the partnership in various fields between Egypt and Russia and the friendly ties both at the official level and between the two peoples," Rada noted.
