Putin and Mirziyoyev confirm their desire to strengthen ties between Russia and Uzbekistan

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Kremlin press service said Tuesday.


"The sides discussed topical issues of bilateral relations, including measures to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in the trade and economic sphere. A mutual interest in further comprehensive strengthening of the Russian-Uzbek strategic partnership and alliance was confirmed," the statement said.


The leaders agreed to continue contacts at various levels, the Kremlin concluded.


Earlier, the Uzbek side reported on the conversation. It was noted that the sides discussed the priority measures to ensure the dynamics of trade turnover and implementation of joint cooperation projects between Russia and Uzbekistan, as well as development of humanitarian cooperation. Putin and Mirziyoyev paid special attention to the Innoprom exhibition to be held in Tashkent in late April, the press service of the Uzbek leader said.
