Russian President Vladimir Putin and Qatar's Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani discussed preparations for the FIFA World Cup in 2022 and agreed to cooperate on sports, cultural and medical support for the tournament. According to the Kremlin press service, they touched on this topic in a telephone conversation on Friday.
"The parties discussed the subject of preparing and holding the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022. An agreement was reached on the establishment of practical cooperation, in particular on the issues of sports, cultural and medical support for the upcoming tournament, taking into account Russia's experience in organizing such a major event," the statement said.
The Kremlin added that Putin thanked the Emir of Qatar "for his personal active participation and for the fruitful work of the representative Qatari delegation at the recent St. Petersburg International Economic Forum."
"Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of Russian-Qatari cooperation in various fields and confirmed the mutual intention for its further comprehensive development," the press service said, noting that the sides agreed on contacts at various levels.
