Putin Describes Talks with Erdogan as Conducted in Businesslike Atmosphere

04 September 2023

Talks with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan were conducted in a constructive and businesslike atmosphere, where all key issues of Russian-Turkish interaction were thoroughly discussed, stated Russian President Vladimir Putin during a press conference following the talks.

"Today's talks, as always, were conducted in a constructive and businesslike atmosphere. We delved into the details of various key aspects of Russian-Turkish cooperation, spanning security, economy, politics, culture, and humanitarian affairs. Furthermore, we shared perspectives on pressing matters within the international and regional contexts," he remarked.

Putin highlighted the significance of Russian-Turkish cooperation within the energy sector, describing it as "a genuinely strategic partnership." He particularly mentioned the ongoing construction of Turkey's first nuclear power plant, Akkuyu, by Rosatom. "About 25,000 Russian and Turkish nuclear specialists, engineers, and workers are diligently working around the clock with the aim of commissioning the plant's first power unit in 2024," Putin stressed.

Additionally, Putin noted a significant milestone, stating that, following the delivery of Russian nuclear fuel to Akkuyu in April, the nuclear power plant officially obtained the status of a nuclear facility. "This development places Turkey among the group of nations with access to peaceful nuclear technology," the Russian president added.
