Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the situation in the Middle East at a meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council.
"Let's discuss the current state of affairs and near-term prospects in this region of the world," the head of state said at the meeting, according to the Kremlin website on Friday.
"Let's talk about events that are taking place in the immediate vicinity of our borders, in the Middle East region," Putin added. "Russia traditionally pays a lot of attention to this region of the world; we have many interests there, many friends and partners," he reminded. - "This region is promising for the development of our foreign economic relations and is traditionally friendly for us."
According to Putin, Sergei Naryshkin, head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, and Sergei Shoigu, Russian Defense Minister, will speak on this topic at the meeting.
