Putin may discuss Ukraine with Erdogan after his inauguration in Turkey

Russian President Vladimir Putin may pay an official visit to Turkey after the inauguration of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who won the second round of the presidential election. A source in Ankara told TASS on Wednesday.

 

"Mr. President Putin's visit may take place right after Mr. President Erdogan takes office. If such a visit takes place, the main topics of their talks will be [the conflict] in Ukraine and the grain initiative," the source stressed, refusing to specify any other details.

 

Meanwhile, Spokesman for the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said earlier that the Russian and Turkish leaders in a recent phone conversation confirmed their intention to hold a face-to-face meeting in the foreseeable future. However, the place and date "need to be coordinated, considering the schedules of the two presidents."

 

The exact date of President Erdogan's inauguration will be known after the CEC announces the final results of the second round of the presidential election. Earlier, a source at the CEC told TASS that this could take place on June 1. In this case, the inauguration could take place on June 3.

 

On May 28, the second roundof presidential elections was held, according to its results, the Higher Election Council of Turkey recognized the victory of Erdogan, who, after processing 99.43% of ballots received 52.14% of votes, while the opposition candidate, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, got 47.86% of votes.
