Putin Meets with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who led a delegation to the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) held on the campus of Far Eastern Federal University on Russky Island.

 

Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for the Russian president, highlighted that while Russia-Malaysia relations hold significant potential, this potential has not yet been fully realized.

 

 

Ahead of his trip, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his intention to discuss with President Putin the conflict in Ukraine and the ongoing escalation in the Middle East. Additionally, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry indicated that the Prime Minister would explore opportunities for cooperation in tourism and astronautics and express Malaysia's interest in joining BRICS.

 

Malaysian Ambassador to Moscow, Cheong Loon Lai, described the visit of Malaysia's head of government as a sign of deepening relations between Moscow and Kuala Lumpur.
