Putin: The Unresolved Two-State Issue is at the Heart of the Escalation in the Middle East

05 September

The failure to resolve the two-state solution is at the core of the current escalation between Israel and Palestine, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a discussion at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum.

“Russia's position is not based on short-term circumstances. It has always been grounded in previous decisions, which, in my view, should form the foundation for a resolution,” he said. “This primarily involves the creation of two independent states. Interestingly, this stance is shared by many around the world, including, surprisingly, many in the United States. However, this issue remains unresolved and lies at the root of today's worsening situation, today's confrontation.”

Putin added that Russia will do everything within its power “to contribute to the resolution of this long-standing and deeply complex crisis.” He mentioned that he discussed this matter during a meeting in Moscow with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
