Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks with his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Monday, November 28, who will pay his first foreign visit to Moscow after being re-elected. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Friday, answering a question from TASS.
"President Tokayev of Kazakhstan will pay an official visit to the Russian Federation on Monday, this will be his first foreign visit after his re-election as head of state," the Kremlin spokesman said. He noted that "the two presidents will negotiate."
Peskov also said that "the two presidents will address participants of the forum of interregional cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan, which will be held on this day in Orenburg." He specified that Putin and Tokayev will make the addresses via videoconference from Moscow.
Speaking about the talks between the leaders of Russia and Kazakhstan, the Kremlin representative said that after the protocol part, they will continue [the talks] in the format of a working breakfast. Following the talks, the signing of documents will take place.
"It will be a full-format visit, very, very important for us and for the bilateral Russia-Kazakhstan relations," the spokesman for the Russian leader said.
The Kremlin press service reported that during the talks "it is planned to discuss issues of further development of Russia-Kazakhstan relations of strategic partnership and alliance, as well as prospects for cooperation within the framework of integration associations in the Eurasian space." They also said that "a number of bilateral documents are expected to be signed, including a declaration between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations."
About the last early presidential elections in Kazakhstan
On November 20, early presidential elections were held in Kazakhstan. The current leader of the country, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev won with 81.31% of the vote.
Tokayev's inauguration ceremony is scheduled for the morning of November 26. According to the law, the head of the republic takes office upon swearing an oath to the people of Kazakhstan.
About the forum of interregional cooperation
Since 2003, the Forum of interregional cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia was alternately held in Russian and Kazakh cities: Chelyabinsk, Uralsk, Novosibirsk, Aktobe, Orenburg, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Astrakhan, Pavlodar, Ekaterinburg, Atyrau, Sochi, Astana, Petropavlovsk and Omsk. This tradition appeared after meeting of the first president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and the Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Omsk in 2003.
The previous forum of interregional cooperation was held on September 28-30, 2021, in online format and following its results Russia and Kazakhstan signed 13 documents.
