Putin: we must do everything to prevent Russia's ill-wishers from destabilizing the situation in the country

The Russian authorities must not allow internal political security in the country to be disrupted, given the intensified efforts of ill-wishers. This is the task set by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council.

The head of state suggested discussing "ensuring Russia's security, in this case, internal political security," taking into account the efforts taken and activated by ill-wishers, "to rock the situation inside the Russian Federation."

"And you and I must do everything to prevent them from doing this under any circumstances," Putin pointed out.

The president recalled that recently at a meeting of the Council on Interethnic Relations "[they] dealt with issues of interethnic relations in the country." "For the Russian Federation, these issues are extremely important, <...> we have 190 ethnic groups living in the country," said the president. At the meeting, he noted that he believes it's necessary to address "these same issues in relation to security."

Putin said that reports will be made by Director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov and Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev. The meeting is traditionally held behind closed doors for the press.

The meeting was attended by Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, Deputy Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, Presidential Administration Chief Anton Vaino, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov, SVR Director Sergei Naryshkin, Special Representative of the President of Russia on the Issues of Environmental Activities, Ecology and Transport Sergei Ivanov.
