CSTO Secretary-General Stanislav Zas, Head of the Anti-Terrorist Center (ATC) of CIS member states Evgeny Sysoyev and Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) Ruslan Mirzaev signed a "Joint Position of the SCO RATS, CIS ATC and the CSTO Secretariat on countering terrorism and extremism" on Wednesday.
"The document declares common approaches on countering international terrorism and extremism, the parties' support for UN Security Council resolution 2354 (2017) on countering the spread of terrorist ideas and implementing the requirements of the UN global counter-terrorism strategy on eliminating conditions conducive to the spread of terrorism, preventing and combating it, as well as work on deradicalization and elimination of the feeding environment for terrorism," the press service of the Secretariat CSTO said.
As noted in the secretariat, the parties attach importance to the consolidation of efforts of the world community and advocate the formation of a broad anti-terrorist coalition under the aegis of the UN within the framework of coordination of efforts in the field of counter-terrorism.
"[The parties] consider it necessary to take effective collective measures to prevent and suppress the spread and propaganda of terrorist and related radical ideology, including religious extremism, incitement to terrorism and recruitment to terrorist and extremist organizations, attaching importance to countering the use of the Internet by terrorist organizations," the press service added.
The parties draw attention to the importance of adopting coordinated measures against participants of armed conflicts on the side of international terrorist organizations, including those who move to their countries of origin or to third countries. In addition, the parties intend to strengthen interaction and promote cooperation of CSTO, SCO and CIS countries in combating terrorism, including the provision of legal assistance in finding and bringing to justice terrorists and their accomplices.
The signing ceremony took place in Moscow at the CSTO Secretariat. Prior to that, Zas, Sysoyev and Mirzaev held a trilateral meeting.
