Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud stressed in a telephone conversation on Wednesday their intention to help the Lebanese people overcome the consequences of the explosion in the port of Beirut.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Foreign Ministers discussed a wide range of issues of multifaceted bilateral cooperation, with an emphasis on the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level during the state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Riyadh on October 14-15 last year.

"Sergey V. Lavrov and Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud stressed their solidarity with friendly Lebanon in connection with the explosion in the port of Beirut on August 4 this year and their intention to provide the Lebanese people with the necessary assistance in overcoming the consequences of this tragic incident, and also noted the importance of creating favorable external conditions in which the Lebanese themselves, through an inclusive dialogue of all major ethnic and religious groups, will be able to agree on ways to form a new government," the document notes.

The heads of the diplomatic agencies also stressed the need to immediately restart the inclusive inter-Libyan dialogue. "During the exchange of views on the Libyan issue, the need to establish a stable cessation of hostilities as soon as possible and immediately restart the inclusive inter-Libyan dialogue within the framework of the mechanisms established by the decisions of the Berlin peace conference and approved in UN Security Council resolution 2510," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The Ministers also discussed the problems of the Middle East settlement. They expressed "concern about the continuing impasse" and stressed the counterproductivity of any unilateral actions that run counter to the generally accepted international legal framework for a settlement, which "could lead to a dangerous escalation of the situation in the Palestinian territories and in the entire region".

The Russian Foreign Minister confirmed support for the activities of Saudi Arabia as the G20 chair and "Russia's readiness to contribute to the achievement of significant results of the upcoming leaders 'summit and other events within the framework of the G20". As noted in the Russian diplomatic service, "the current situation in the world trade organization was also touched upon."
