Russia and Turkey support the cessation of hostilities throughout the territory of Libya

Russia and Turkey stressed the importance of the statement of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) Fayez al-Sarraj and the House of representatives Aguila Saleh on the cessation of hostilities throughout Libya, the message of the Russian Foreign Ministry following the results of interdepartmental consultations between the two countries reads.


"During the in-depth exchange of views, which was also attended by representatives of the defense ministries from both sides, the emphasis was placed on the importance of the recent statements of the Chairman of the chamber of deputies of Libya, Aguila Saleh, and the Chairman of the GNA, Faez al-Sarraj, on the cessation of hostilities throughout Libya," the document states.

 

 

The parties also confirmed their intention to continue joint efforts to promote a political settlement in the country and to continue contacts.


"At the same time, Moscow and Ankara confirmed their mutual interest in further coordinating approaches in order to promote a constructive inter-Libyan dialogue with the participation of all leading political forces and associations. In this context, they noted the need for a significant effective role of the UN in implementing the decisions of the international conference held in Berlin on January 19, and the early appointment of a new special representative of the UN Secretary - General for Libya," the Ministry added.


The Russian delegation was headed by the Russian President's Special representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, and the Turkish delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal.
