Russia Firmly Opposes Israeli Airstrikes in Syria

24 January

Russian President's Special Representative for the Syrian settlement  Alexander Lavrentiev  strongly voiced Russia's opposition to Israeli airstrikes on Syrian territory. Lavrentiev emphasized concerns that such actions could entangle Syria in the broader Middle East conflict.

He stated, "We categorically do not accept this option to resolve the issue because it only leads to an escalation of violence. We do not want Syria to be dragged into a regional conflict, and we will do everything to prevent it."

The increased frequency of Israeli airstrikes targeting pro-Iranian facilities in Syria prompted Lavrentiev's remarks. Al Hadath reported that a recent Israeli air attack in Damascus resulted in the death of General Yousef Omid Zadeh, the commander of the intelligence service of the Al-Quds Special Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Additional casualties included Iranian officers and Syrian military personnel. The IRGC confirmed the deaths of four military advisers due to the Israeli strike, with subsequent reports revealing another casualty among IRGC representatives.
