Russia hopes that the results of Kyrgyz parliamentary elections will strengthen stability in the country

Russia hopes that the results of the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan will contribute to strengthening stability in this country and its alliance with Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Wednesday.


"We are confident that the results of the will of the people of Kyrgyzstan will contribute to strengthening internal stability as well as the democratic development of this country under the rule of law, the progressive growth of its economy and the well-being of the nation," she said. - "We hope that the new government of Kyrgyzstan will continue to focus on its strategic alliance with the Russian Federation, intensify integration processes in the Eurasian space and increase joint efforts for peace and security in Central Asia".


According to Zakharova, most international observers, including members of the CIS monitoring mission, say the voting was free and open and corresponded to the national legislation of Kyrgyzstan. "The Kyrgyz party received comprehensive assistance in organizing voting in the Russian Federation: 21 polling stations were opened in 16 regions and six polling stations were organized in Moscow, and we provided all necessary assistance," Zakharova added.


Elections to the seventh Zhogorku Kenesh (Supreme Council) of Kyrgyzstan were held on November 28th by a mixed system - 54 deputies were elected by party lists and 36 - by single-mandate districts. A total of 1,300 people competed for 90 seats in the Kyrgyz parliament. According to preliminary data, six parties - Ata-Jurt Kyrgyzstan (Fatherland - Kyrgyzstan), Ishenim (Trust), Yntymak (Harmony), Yyman Nuru (Light of Faith), Alliance and Butun Kyrgyzstan (United Kyrgyzstan). Turnout was about 35 percent and counting is in progress.


The previous parliamentary elections in the fall of 2020 were declared invalid by the CEC due to numerous violations of electoral legislation. The tabulation of their results resulted in mass demonstrations and a change of president and government in the country.
