Russian President Vladimir Putin, opening a meeting with Government members, announced the registration of the world's first vaccine against the coronavirus infection in Russia.

" I have been told that the world’s first coronavirus vaccine was approved this morning," the President said.

Putin asked Healthcare Minister Mikhail Murashko to share some details on this subject. " I know that it is quite effective, helps develop immunity and has gone through all the necessary trials," the Russian leader added.

Earlier, Murashko said that clinical trials of the vaccine developed by the National research center of epidemiology and Microbiology named after  Gamalei of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, completed.

Mass production of the coronavirus vaccine registered in Russia should begin soon, and the vaccination will be voluntary, the President of the Russian Federation said. "I hope that we will be able to start mass production in the near future - this is what is important - mass production of this drug," the head of state said. According to him, this is necessary so that everyone can get such a vaccination. At the same time, Putin stressed that "this, of course, should be done exclusively voluntarily."

"We are working on a vaccine of its kind in Russia at other institutions and wish all the experts success, we must be grateful to those who made this first step," Putin said, calling it very important both for Russia and for the world.

"The main thing, of course, is that in the future we will be able to ensure the absolute safety of using this vaccine and its effectiveness. I hope that this will be like this" the head of state continued. The President congratulated everyone who worked on the drug. He also expressed gratitude to the Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the head of the Ministry of Health Mikhail Murashko and noted the contribution of the Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova. "This is a success, I once again congratulate you," the head of state addressed the members of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Putin asked the Minister whether similar vaccines were registered elsewhere in the world. Murashko replied that there were developments in China and in a number of other countries, "but there are still clinical studies going on." "In fact, the registration certificate in full format is issued in Russia for the first time," the head of the Ministry of Health said.

"I hope that our colleagues abroad will also continue to work, and there will be quite a lot of products on the world market for medicines and vaccines that can be used," Putin said.
