Moscow has expressed approval of recent indications of readiness to normalize relations between Ankara and Damascus and is awaiting practical steps to follow. This was announced by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova during a briefing.
"Recently, we have actively received signals of readiness for this normalization of relations between Syria and Turkey, including at the highest level from President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. We welcome this trend and expect practical steps in this direction from both sides," Zakharova stated.
She emphasized that Moscow believes the normalization of ties between Ankara and Damascus is crucial for advancing a comprehensive resolution in Syria and enhancing regional security.
"Therefore, we are encouraging our partners to continue their contacts in every possible way," she added.
Zakharova also noted that other countries, particularly those involved in the Astana format, could play a significant role in mediation efforts aimed at achieving peace and stability in the region. "We do not rule out that other nations can contribute to these mediation efforts," she stated.
