Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, strongly condemned the strikes on Yemen conducted by a coalition led by the United States and Britain, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"Special attention was paid to the escalation of tension in the Middle East. The heads of foreign ministries strongly condemned the massive strikes on the territory of Yemen led by the United States and Britain," the statement highlighted. Additionally, the ministers advocated for an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and emphasized the need for unimpeded humanitarian access to provide urgent assistance to the affected civilian population.
The diplomatic discussion also touched upon the preparation of a new interstate treaty and various practical aspects of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Iran. The statement noted that both ministers underscored their unwavering commitment to the fundamental principles of Russian-Iranian relations, including unconditional respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and other principles outlined in the UN Charter. These principles are expected to be reaffirmed in the upcoming comprehensive interstate treaty between Russia and Iran.
