Russian Deputy Foreign Minister: Western Attempts to Disrupt Russia-Africa Summit Have Failed

27 July 2023

Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and African countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov has asserted that Western countries' efforts to disrupt the second Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg have been unsuccessful.

When asked about the attempts to disrupt the summit, Bogdanov confirmed that they had indeed failed. He highlighted that the Russian Federation received participation from "no fewer participants than at the first summit - about 20 high-level representatives and many secondary officials."

Bogdanov stressed that Russia does not impose its agenda on others, and unlike the West, it respects the sovereign equality of states, as stated in the UN Charter. He emphasized the historical support Russia provided to African countries during their struggle for independence and the development of statehood. The current state of relations is built on the principles of reciprocity and equal dialogue, making it a true reflection of cooperation and mutual respect.
