Russian Foreign Ministry: all sides intend to maximize efforts to restart the JCPOA without withdrawals

10 December 2021

All participants in Thursday's resumed talks on restoring the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program reaffirmed their intention to make every effort to finally determine practical steps to restore the deal to its original form, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued Thursday.

"All sides confirmed the intention to make maximum efforts in the interests of final determination of the practical steps needed to restart the comprehensive implementation of the JCPOA in its original form without additions and exceptions," the ministry pointed out.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, it was decided to continue intensive interaction, including at the expert level within the working groups on sanctions and nuclear issues, at the end of the meeting.

The seventh round of talks on the Iranian nuclear deal and the lifting of US sanctions began on November 29 and was suspended on December 3, when European participants returned to their countries for additional consultations before continuing the dialogue. Another round was held Thursday in Vienna. During the Vienna talks, Tehran presented the parties with a draft agreement on the renewal of the nuclear deal in the form of two documents on the lifting of US sanctions and issues on the nuclear program. The US delegation does not participate in direct talks with Iran or meetings of the Joint Commission, but is present in Vienna for separate consultations with the other parties to the Iranian nuclear agreement.
