Russia considers the continued Israeli shelling of Syrian territory unacceptable and categorically condemns the actions that violate international law, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a briefing on Thursday.

"We consider it necessary to emphasize that the ongoing Israeli shelling of the territory of Syria, the violation of the basic rights of international law is categorically unacceptable," she said. - "We strongly condemn such irresponsible actions, which multiply the number of military and civilian casualties and carry a real threat of an uncontrolled escalation of tension throughout the region".

Zakharova noted that such attacks "lead to a decrease in the combat capabilities of the Syrian Armed Forces and have a negative impact on the effectiveness of efforts to combat terrorism on Syrian soil."

"We demand that the Israeli side stop this vicious and dangerous practice," she added.

Earlier, a spokesman for the Arab Republic's military command said that four Syrian soldiers were killed and three others were wounded in an Israeli attack on troop positions near Damascus. The Dubai-based al-Hadas television channel reported that five Shia Hezbollah fighters, who fight on the side of the Syrian army against the terrorist groups, were also killed. The strikes targeted the area of the international airport south of Damascus, where arms depots and command posts of the Shia militias are located.

According to al-Hadas, the attack was Israel's ninth aggressive action against Syria since the beginning of the year.
