Russia welcomes the inter-Libyan direct talks, which began on Monday in the 5+5 format in Geneva. This was announced to journalists on Monday by the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and African countries, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikhail Bogdanov.

"If they started talking, it means that they have a desire to make an agreement. We only welcome it," said the Deputy Minister.

According to him, to achieve the result "it will take some time and effort". "First, their own desire. This is the most important thing. And, of course, the assistance of those parties with whom [they] have a trusting relationship," Bogdanov added.

The deputy minister also noted that the ceasefire in the country, which was announced on August 21, is being observed.

The work of the Joint Military Committee in the 5+5 format (five representatives each from the Government of National Accord and the Libyan National Army) will open preparations for the forum of the Libyan political dialogue, the task of which is consensus on the formation of unified transitional authorities and the organization of elections.
