The remarks made by Israeli Minister for Jerusalem and Jewish Heritage Amihai Eliyahu regarding the potential use of nuclear weapons against Gaza Strip residents are both provocative and entirely unacceptable. This condemnation is articulated in the official statement by Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"We deem these statements provocative, entirely unacceptable, and quite noteworthy," the commentary reads.
Zakharova added that Eliyahu's remarks clearly affirm Israel's possession of nuclear weapons. "In light of Israel's historically established policy of ambiguity regarding the possession of nuclear weapons, these statements not only unmistakably confirm the presence of such weapons in this country but also demonstrate a readiness to seriously entertain the possibility of their use in utterly inappropriate scenarios," the diplomat said.
She emphasized that the matter of establishing a zone free of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in the Middle East is gaining growing significance and urgency. "Overall, the initiative to create a WMD-free zone and regulate the means of their delivery in the Middle East is progressively becoming more relevant and pressing. It's crucial to note that advancements in this domain are consistently thwarted by Israel, with active support and complicity from the United States," noted Zakharova in her commentary.
