A Russian Emergencies Ministry plane carrying humanitarian aid has landed at Benghazi Airport in northeastern Libya, as reported by the Libyan news portal Al-Wasat.
According to the information, "the Russian plane carrying aid arrived at Benghazi Airport in Benin on Friday morning. The cargo includes technical and medical equipment, as well as Russian rescue teams."
As the press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry reported to TASS, the ministry has sent an aircraft loaded with humanitarian aid to help Libya, which has been heavily affected by flooding.
"In line with the directives of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian government, and under the orders of the Russian Emergencies Ministry led by Alexander Kurenkov, an Il-76 aircraft from the Russian Emergencies Ministry departed from Zhukovsky to deliver humanitarian aid to Libya," the ministry stated.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry also noted that essential supplies were dispatched to the disaster zone, including tents, blankets, mobile power plants, and lighting systems essential for supporting the affected population's daily needs due to the flooding. Additionally, rescue kits for operating in the emergency zone will be provided to the Libyan authorities.
Cyclone Daniel struck the northeastern region of Libya on September 10, bringing strong winds, heavy rainfall, and thunderstorms to cities along the Mediterranean coast. The city of Derna suffered the most significant impact, with two dams being destroyed. The destruction of these dams near Derna was the primary factor contributing to the high casualty count in the region. According to the Libyan Red Crescent Society, the death toll has surpassed 11,000.
