Russia maintains active contacts with Central Asian countries at the high and the highest levels. Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Third Department for CIS countries Alexander Sternik said this on Thursday at the Valdai Discussion Club.
"In 2021, we had about 57 visits, meetings, and contacts at the high and highest levels, I mean the president, the prime minister, and the head of the foreign ministry. This year there were 66 [meetings]," he said. - "And now we expect a summit in St. Petersburg by the end of this year (the CIS informal summit is scheduled for December 26-27 in St. Petersburg - TASS), that is, there will be more summits. Last year there were eight summits, and this year there are eighteen."
"Despite all the circumstances, the Russian head of state visited all five Central Asian countries, some of them twice," Sternik noted.
